it can't be done!

There is no earthly way to fit in all the subjects plus deal with social issues, behavior problems, etc... You could if all you ever used in your class were the textbooks and stayed away from all hands-on learning!
Any
worthwhile activity takes longer than you think and thatis great for kids but looks bad "on us". I am never given silly demands like the ones you mentioned above but we do have to take time out for band, chorus, computer, the latest assembly on smoking, bike safety, jazz pianists, and the list goes on...
Don't even try to fit it all because it'll make you crazy! Do the best you
can; the kids in your math class are moving at the pace they need which does not always correlate with a principal's notion of where you should be at this point in the year. Don't let it stress you because it is inevitable and every teacher learns that.

One additional thing, do you have a union? Could your rep help you with the issue of having to turn in all these edited papers? That seems like an inordinate amount of time and energy spent that could be applied to class instruction.
