perkins loans By mj

I just want to offer my little piece of advice based on experience. I heard that Perkins loans could be forgiven if you taught in a low income area my senior year of college. Well, I thought I wouldn't mind doing it, so I changed the Stafford loan I had been getting before to a Perkins loan. I did end up teaching in a low income area, but it is not a school on the Perkin's loan forgiveness list, so I have to pay this loan off in addition to my stafford loan, which makes two separate rather high payments, which, believe me, on a second year teacher salary is not fun! So just make sure you are intending to teach at one of the schools on their list before you change your loan. That's just my advice. Good luck.
