cowboy theme

I just finished a week focusing on cowboys/cowgirls in my 1st grade class. We read "Armadillo Rodeo" by Jan Brett. This has a cowgirl as the main character. Jan Brett's website has some printable crafts to go along with the story on her website, janbrett.com. We allowed the students to dress as cowboys or cowgirls on Friday, and had chips and salsa as a snack. We also watched a really cute video from our school library, "Pecos Bill", an episode of Shelley Duvall's Tall Tales and Legends. The girls enjoyed the story of Annie Oakley, also. There are so many things to do with a cowboy theme. Have fun!
