Help
By Kathy Westermeyer

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree with the above suggestions--any of them you might find helpful. Usually more advanced kids can do fairly well independently. You don't want to leave them out completely of course, but often given an idea--or prompt--they
can take off and run with it.

I think the idea of pairing up the children is excellent. Also, have you thought of doing cooperative learning groups? Sometimes kids are the best at helping each other.

Volunteers can be a real boon--an aide even better. Don't be afraid to ask for help with your special needs children.

I think the idea of reteaching the discipline plan

is a good one. Having to focus on discipline definitely draws from what you're trying to do academically--plus it's draining!!

My last advice is: First years often rough! Hang in there. It does get better in time!!
