Definitely go to the principal and tell him you would rather have your regular observation after vacation. I feel it's just too tough to balance two things. And if your principal is sympathetic, having two observations shouldn't be a problem. It's not "cheating" to introduce the concept ahead of time. Your principal wants to see you "at your best." I've taught 23 observations--and I still don't love being observed. But I'm learning to be a lot more relaxed about it!
