I'm a newbie, too this year & have also had to endure being observed and having people come in to observe students. Thank heavens I never had to do both at the same, on purpose! I have had observers make
The idea of introducing the math game beforehand is just fine, in my book. When we give kids the state exams & such, we are allowed to adminster "sample tests" to help the students become familiar with the process and the type of thinking that is required for taking the tests. You will introduce the lesson at an earlier date & the principal will be observing a follow-up lesson, or a copntinuation of that lesson. I honestly don't think even seasoned teachers try to introduce an entirely new concept on the day they know that they'll be observed. You never know how it'll go over. Also, as far as the observation of your "special student"...I wouldn't do anything out of the ordinary towards this student. Meaning, don't let your other students suffer because you're devoting so much time to him just because he's being observed. The idea is for the principal to come in & see that you need additional help, that the child needs additional help, right? Help him along, provide support & guidance from you & your aide, but continue to carry on as you normally do. Good Luck!
