Should be observed formally

I ama new teacher also. Last week, I had my second formal observation. The Principal told me that I will have one more by the end of the school year. She made a distinction at the beginning of the school year between formal and informal observations. The formal ones are those that you know are coming and when. She stated that she also informally observes too. That would include walking past the classroom and looking in, seeing you on line with them, etc. I really think it is unfair that you have nothing for your records. I have had two of mine (both went well, thank goodness), so now I have a copy of each that I can use as a reference.
