Master's
By Robin

Clip to ScrapBook
Our district pays for about 1 1/2 courses a year, but it varies from district to district. When I taught in New York state, they would give you a 3 credit tuition certificate to any of the state colleges if you hosted a student
teacher. I agree that it is very expensive , and having received my Master's at a state college here in NJ, I do not feel that the learning I obtained justified the expense. However, because it meant a significant jump on the salary guide, I had to do it. My advice is to bite the bullet and get it when you are as young as possible. You will maximize your earnings, and if you could
do it before you have children, so much the better. It is expensive, but you can do it slowly. Most colleges allow 5 years to get it, and maybe that's even negotiable depending on your circumstances. Good luck!
