Consequences and rewards
By Bette

Clip to ScrapBook
We use Assertive Discipline in our school (names and checks on the board for each broken rule). I teach second grade. A name on the board is a warning, one check and the student is removed from the group for five minutes, two checks is loss of recess (if all recesses are over for the day, fifteen minutes separated from the group), three checks is contact with parents (depending on the day/the severity of the behavior this may be a call home where the student explains the reasons for the call, or it may be a note sent home to be signed and returned) and four checks sends a student to the principal.

Rewards: stickers, candy, lunch with the teacher, free time, tokens, pencils, praise, positive notes home...you get the idea. Good Luck!
