First of all I just want to say thank you for all the advice. This was a very difficult day for me. I dreaded going to work the entire way there. Lucky for me I guess, the principal stayed out of my way, and I stayed out
of hers. Just for a little more background--I started out the year with a great discipline program, and little by little every consequence I had has been taken away by the principal. I have 3 board member kids in my room, and she uses them as an excuse to remove consequences she feels their fathers may object too.

She insists that we be consistent--which I'd love to do, but she

is so wishy washy about punishments that it is totally impossible to be consistent. She picks and chooses which students to send to ISS for the same offenses. She suspended an 8th grader for throwing a crayon across the room at no one, but didn't want to do anything about me getting hit by a book that was thrown directly at me. It is making me crazy. I tried to mention this to her yesterday before I called our teacher organization, but she was insistent that she was in charge of which students would be disciplined and in what manner that discipline would take place.

Anyway, thank you again for the great suggestions and I will try them. I'll keep you informed of what happens next. Do any of you feel that your life as a teacher somewhat resembles a soap?
