Overreacting Principal
By Susan

Clip to ScrapBook
I think my principal has similar opinions of me as yours has of you. I feel that, like all teachers, I have my problems, but that I'm hanging in there. I feel positive about all the efforts I have put in to adapt and change,
meet students' needs, and dig out all kinds of resources on my own to plan lessons. Yet my dumb principal got it in his mind a long time ago that I totally sucked. Earlier this year he acted like it was a HUGE emergency that I go in and observe another teacher. He was like, "You need to go next week." When I told him there was a two-week notice required to get subs for observation
purposes, he said, "I'll pay for the sub." My gosh, like waiting FIVE more days was going to mean the difference between all my students joining gangs and becoming Nobel laureates? I was doing just fine. And after that observation? All I learned from the other teacher was that she did the same stuff I did and I should feel better.

I think the man thinks I'm in my room habitually beating the students and showing movies all day. I hate having a job where the principal has such a low concept of me.

Your situation sounds worse. If you can stomach the job interviews and the school/grade change, I say get out of that school.
