Do we teach at the same school?
By Sabrina

Clip to ScrapBook
You and I could be teaching in the same school Lisa. This is my third year in the district. I moved to Texas from Oklahoma so I didn't know what I was getting into with TAAS. I also teach 4th grade but thankfully do not
teach writing, just math, science and social studies. Our principal is under a lot of pressure from the higher ups and therefore puts a lot of pressure on us, especially about the writing test. I live in a very low socio-economic. Each year we strive to be "Recognized" but have thus far fallen short. This year my principal is freaking out because she thinks we may not even be acceptable,
which is a really bad thing. Another school in our district had that happen 2 years ago and I don't ever want to go through that. Our principal frequently has more experienced teachers and district cordinators come into our room and teach lessons.

I am not really helping that much but I just want you to know that I understand what it is like. I have a feeling that no matter where you go there will be a lot of TAAS pressure. I think you can judge a district very well based on one year. I don't think prospective employers care if you leave after the first year. They probably won't see what is in your file but your current principal will probably talk to your prospective employers.
