I hear ya

I am also sick of discipline problems. Students just try to push buttons and want to win and it become a power struggle. It gets really difficult to teach when student chit chat during lessons. The principal wants us to discipline the students in a calm tone of voice. I feel that the only thing that works is to yell at the students in a loud voice. I don't want to get them scared, but that is what works. There is this teacher at our school that carries a cell phone and after the 3rd warning the child has had she has him/her call their parents right in front of everyone and tell them what they are doing wrong. She says that it works wonders.
