"Beat" as in conquer in a competition
By DSB

Clip to ScrapBook
Ooops! Please disregard the title of my previous post. Looking at it I now realize that the word "beat" could be taken in a NEGATIVE context and may lead to deleted postings. In the above post the word "beat" was meant to
be used as in the common idiom "If you can't beat them, join them." I.E. games of sport or challenge. This post was in reference to the fact that if a class is noisy due to the many over-exciting holiday activities, a well-meaning and caring teacher who can not get them to be quiet can join them in the excitement of the holidays by giving them an activity that embraces their kinesthetic
and inter-personal intelligences such as conducting a class-room play.

This post is not intended to disparage any teacher, student teacher, or first year teacher. Only to encourage the profession of teachers and those who heed its calling.
