maria, i found the original poster's comment interesting as well.

amanda: your kids' interpretation of your relationship with the male teacher MAY be racial, but then again it may not be. in my very first year of teaching, i encountered the same issue with my second graders. they would ask me if our male teaching assistant (who was caucasian...and i am black)was my boyfriend. i simply would say "no" and move on, without making an issue of it. they eventually understood this. i think it's just a kid-thing. i noticed that some of the other teachers posted that their first and/or second graders made the same remarks.

just my two cents.
