Something to Think About
By G.M.

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Amy:

Just wanted to share this: a friend of mine was having a difficult time getting a full-time teaching position. She subbed a lot and even subbed for a librarian who was returning to teaching full-time.

My
friend subbed as the librarian for a month or so while the school was trying to find a Library Media Specialist. They had no luck; they are scarce in this neck of the woods. So, lucky for my friend they hired her with the stipulation that she begin taking the courses necessary to obtain a certificate for such a position. She has a B.A. in Liberal Studies, with one year of teacher education.
She recently discovered that she needs 32 more units to be certificated. She is required by her district to either be enrolled in 6 units by the end of the school year OR have completed 6.

She LOVES this job. She says she has to come up with 6 lesson plans per week (one for each grade level; lessons on library skills). She says she is out the door by 4, with no baggage: no papers to correct, no parent calls to make, etc, etc....
So far, she is having a time of her life, she says.

This might be something that is interesting to you. You still get to be around kids, and teach them also. And just think, if you have a tough group of kids, you have them for just 30 or 40 minutes.

Another thing I'd like to throw in while I'm at it: please keep in mind that the first year can be terribly difficult..........things might very possibly get better, they really might
sorry to go on so long.........G.M.
