I too am a product of high school block scheduling. It wasn't the confusing AB or ABC schedules, though. We had the same classes Monday through Friday for the semester. I honestly think that I learned more the year on
block than I did the other three years on traditional 6 periods. The classes that I really saw a difference were Math and English. With 90 minutes, there is more time to complete more in-depth writing, or grasp a complicated math concept.

Some classes were boring. They were the teachers that said, "Okay, I'm going to stand up here and lecture for 55 minutes in a monotone voice because

that is what I have done for the past 10 years. Then I'll give you busy work to fill in the rest of the time." No, I am not exaggerating on that one, actually had one teacher that considered it a good lecture if 2 or more students were awake when she finished.

The 90 minutes is a great time to get the kids involved with research, experimentation, critical thinking, in-depth analysis. Things that 45 or 55 minute classes don't have the time to explore.
