I had a student just yesterday write a letter to me in his dialogue journal (the students write me weekly letters and I write back) that he hated me and thought I was mean. He handed it to me and told me to read it. I recognized
that he was angry with me because I made him move his behavior card and told him honestly how I felt. I told him that I was hurt that he would right to me to make me upset. I told him that it was inappropriate for him to say such things to another person. I asked him how he would feel if I had written to him telling him I did not want him in my class or if I had written that

I thought he was a bad student. He admitted he would not like it, apologized, and told me he did it because he was mad. I told him that it was ok to be mad, but how you handle your anger is what will get you results.
