parent phone calls
By teaching parent

Clip to ScrapBook
I agree 100% that teachers should not be called at home. As a teacher, I would not want to have it happen to me; of course, if I gave my number to a parent and told them to call me, that would be another situation. This is
what happened to me. I had a problem with a young teacher my daughter has in math. She called me, upon my request, at home apologizing profusely for her actions in the classroom that day. She said if my daughter was ever upset again not to email as emails are not always answered promptly; she gave me her home phone number and said to call her. I never believed the need would arise nor
did I wish to call another teacher at home. Unfortunately, a situation arose. I emailed her,as was her initial "open house" direction. Then it dawned on me what she had asked during our last phone conversation. So I got out my organizer and looked up the date of our conversation. Sure enough I found the number she gave me and called her. She was furious, did not remember ever giving me her number told me how inappropriate I was and then when I said for her to simply email me, her whole tone changed to this sweet voice saying "no go ahead." I will never again have a conversation with this women without a witness to verify every word that comes out of her mouth. I feel frustrated with the situation being a teacher myself. So, yes I agree it is inappropriate for a parent to take it upon themselves to call a teacher at home; I also think as a teacher it is important to remember what is said, especially important details of conversations.
