Clip to ScrapBook
Sue- I feel just the same. I am a 5th grade teacher in a low performing school- mostly low income, many immigrant kids and I feel many of this class could care less about their education.
I work so hard to create interesting, engaging lessons and they can't be bothered to study for a test. What's worse is many teachers I spoke with today say they always give open book tests and that "these kids" can't be expected to memorize info like science or social studies and that I should lower my expectations. I was one of the few teachers who only had a few students on the honor roll. Oh, wise teachers, am I wrong to have high expectations and not feel it's not ok to reward mediocre work with A's or B's? This year, I'm just not seeing quality work or much effort.
