Oh, I've SOOOO Been There
By Sarah

Clip to ScrapBook
Most of the teachers at my school tell me that they wanted to quit their first years. Quite honestly, I can agree with them (and you) whole-heartedly. I have a good friend at my school who is new in his position as well,
and each day after school we compare scores on the "Quit-O-Meter." So far mine have ranged from "Can't Last Another Day," to, "The Idea of Doing This Next Year Doesn't Totally Make My Stomach Turn." I often come on this board or talk to other teachers who seem to be somehow having this magical feeling of fulfillment that keeps them going and liking it, despite all this other crap we
have to deal with. I wonder if there's something wrong with me for not feeling this way.

My story is about the same as the other posters'. I was doing a lot of things wrong. I had to revamp almost everything. But things did get better. Now I know on the bad days that you have to accept that there are ups and downs ... and that they're not always your fault.

And yes, some days I get to school and see their faces, and I'm so excited that I can't possibly decide which one I'm happiest to see. Other days I feel a little sick when I greet the lines, and I kind of wish that all the buses got stuck in traffic.

I think once you get used to the fact that there will be highs and lows, and you forgive yourself for the lows, things will get better.

I'm still waiting to be sprinkled with that magic pixy dust of fulfillment, though.

Oh well, all things come in time.
