lit circles

I'm doing lit circles with my fourth grade students. the first thing I did was ask them what good listeners do? They give eye contact. Listen to the person who is speaking. Think about what the person has said
and reflect. Then I talked to them about what accountable talk looks like. I asked the childrne to tell me what should a group that is working together look like, sound like, and how will they work together.
The children were able to give me some ideas and I filled in the rest. I started slow with the whole class reading the same book. I gave the groups guided question to help with
group discussions. Now I a in the process of letting them decided a book to read from a choice of five books. Each group now has a better idea what it should be like in lit circles. I also want to develop rubric with them so they know what I expect from there lit circles. They also will develop thier own culminating project for the book they choose.
