know no embarrassment
By Tia

Clip to ScrapBook
these are great stories! thanks for sharing.
i know no embarrassment because i have such a strong sense of humor.

i wore a pair of pants to school the other day with a zipper that tends to get stuck--zipper was hidden
under my sweater. i was worried that i would have to go to the bathroom and wouldn't be able to get the zipper back up--early in the morning i desperately needed to go to the bathroom--right then! i got in the bathroom AND COULDN'T GET MY PANTS UNZIPPED! i had to eek my already-a-tad-too-tight pants over my HIPS! and BUTT! to go. i laughed about it all day, and my colleagus all enjoyed
a laugh too.

as far as walking around with a zipper unzipped in front of students--i usually do a little manners unit with my class, and one of the things we talk about is that it is OK to tell someone the have a booger sticking out of their nose, a zipper unzipped, or spinach in their teeth--if it's done politely and discreetly. i share that this is mannerly because you are preventing that person from being embarrassed all day, and s/he'll be grateful.

yes, student DO need to realize that teachers are people too and that we do silly, embarrassing things. we also need to model for them that it's okay, and we'll get over it so they learn how to deal with the situation.
