    Everyday Math

I am piloting the program in my school this year along with a few other teachers. (I teach 4th grade by the way) I LOVE this program. Yes, there is a lot of preparation involved, but don't rush it. We had a week of training in the summer in my district and we were told that realistically in the first year, you won't get through as much as someone who has been doing it for a while. I just finished up a unit on Geometry with my kids and I was so happy to see their assessment scores. If I had done the unit in the "expected" time frame, many of my kids would have been lost after the first lesson. Starting this program in 4th grade means they have not been exposed to the vocabulary that the text says they should remember from previous years and really, many kids, in my district anyway, have never done math like this before. I am looking out for the well being of the kids and I know that they will learn what they need to learn by June, so if I need to go slower in the beginning than a book tells me I should be going, so be it. Good Luck to you and I hope you find some good points in the program...like I said, I'm really impressed with it.
