    But what about Monday ;)

I haven't felt this way before this year. Maybe I'm trying to do too much, but my school disctrict pretty much demands that I do it all. I have 4 language arts groups - because I HAVE to meet with 7 students who need intervention in small groups every day. Some work on spelling, journal writing, independent reading, while I meet with groups and work on our disctrict's reading 'assurances'
Our bldg has a big guided reading library, and I have a good size library in my room. I am frustratead with the kids who don't read during independent reading time, and don't write during independent writing time. It's such a struggle to get them to do what they are supposed to be doing. They might write 2 sentences and said they wrote in their journals. Even if I tell them to keep writing, I can't be standing over them with a whip. Then reading and writing becomes more like a punishment.
I'd love to be able to do SOMETHING different on Monday. I read all this lovely stuff about a 'classroom full of readers and writers' and I just don't see me getting there. Maybe it's the kids I have this year. So many of them are ADHD and ADD that it's like a 3-ring circus keeping them on task.
