state capitals
By Dave

Clip to ScrapBook
Melanie,
I do not have the Animorphs song, but I use transparencies, one for each state, to teach the capitals. Each state is a mnemonic device cartoon with a little story to help the kids memorize the capital. For
instance, for Maine, the cartoon shows a horse from the neck up, and the horse's 'mane' is blowing back from 'a gust of' wind. Thus, the students visualize something concrete when asked,"What is the capital of Maine?" A few sentences explain that "A Gust Of Wind Is Blowing The Horses Mane." This is a fun way to teach the capitals, and kids usually remember many (but not all) of the capitals.
My problem is I haven't the name of the book these transparencies originated from. Just an idea!
Also, some of the states' mnemonic devices are a little far-fetched. Let me know if you'd like to hear more!
