Hi, My students just did a poetry project and they loved it. (4th graders). We first talked about how using the same words over and over again are boring. Then we talked about how poetry brings words to life. I read several poems from the book Hailstones and Halibut Bones, by Mary O'Neill. They are poems about color. Then the student were assigned the colors orange and red to write their poems about. (I did not read the ones in the book for these colors.) They had to make a collegue using pictures that they cut out from magazines that . Then they wrote their poems. It was alot of fun but took a couple of Language Art periods to finish it.
