Clip to ScrapBook
I don't know what your topic is, so it is hard to be specific, but one idea that came to mind is using a graphic organizer. We are aloways using them to teach concepts- maybe you could use one to diplay this information-
a giant Venn diagram may work really well. On one side- the years you recomaring 1962 the other side 2002. In the middle(same) you could put pictures that show people of all races etc... This could be a combination of magazine, clip art and internet images as well as quotes from speeches such as Dr.KIngs' "I have a dream".., Rosa Parks etc... The children could research the people/places
and contribute to the venn collage. Other images could be a blow up of a map of important places in the Civil Right struggle Selma,Alabama, , the Mall in Wahington D.c. etc. a current images for the 2002 side of the Venn could be civil right throughout the world- Bosnia, Sudan,Northern Ireland, Palestine/Israel and on and on.. women's educational issues in Afghanistan- If you want to just include domestic issues currently, you could focus on hate crimes, women's issues, diversity issues, etc...Good luck!
