Don't Worry!
By Melisa

Clip to ScrapBook
Laura,
Don't flip out! Sixth graders are really not that bad...they have their moments, just as any other grade does, but I think they are actually a lot of fun! There is so much that you can do with them and they have
not fully developed the "too-cool attitude" that many 8th graders display. They are just little kids trying to grow up! I love it!
I have been teaching sixth grade for three years in the same middle school that I attended...so I can relate! Just as you said, many of my former teachers are now my colleagues! I, too, was nervous at first, but if you enter the situation as a professional---they
will treat you with the respect of a professional and feel proud to see you so successful. It has not been uncomfortable for me at all! You'll be fine! If anything it should help ease your situation in that you know the buidling and can expect some familar faces to welcome you!
I teach all subjects but Social Studies, so I cannot help in that area other than to tell you that the content (at least in NY) is pretty interesting.
Good luck to you and feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions that you think I can help with.
Melisa
