Guided Reading= Literature circles
By Erica

Clip to ScrapBook
Guided Reading in fifth grade is equivalent to what is known as Literature Circles. Teacher meets with a group of students who have the same reading level and or interests. The students read the book independently, but
are guided through by the teacher asking comprehension questions, introducing the students to knew vocabulary, and strategies for decoding words. There is a Guided Reading Discussion board called "Teachers as Readers" if you are interested in learning more and discussing this with other teachers. We are currently reading the book Guiding Readers and Writers Grades 3-6 by Fountas and Pinnell
(both synonomous with Guided Reading). I hope this was helpful in someway. Take a look at the Discussion board and see what other questions you have that might have been addressed!- Erica
