Clip to ScrapBook
Hi.I teach 5th and love it. I have taught 5th for 3 years. Here's what is good about fifth:
1. They can work independently fairly easily.
2. They can work in groups fairly easily too.
3. They can carry on good
class discussions on a variety of topics. They have great opinions.
4. They are still at an age where they aim to please without attitudes(for the most part).
5. They understand humorous sarcasm and jokes.
Here's what's not so good:
1. The hormones are starting to kick in.
2. The girls get "catty and snooty".
3. Boys can do some really dumb things for attention.
These
things actually crack me up on a daily basis.
I am strictly a Lang Arts teacher...Here's what I teach them:
--5 paragraph essay writing
--various poetry lessons
--various at home book reports
--we read novels and do literature circles (great with 5th grade!)We also do comprehension extension activities based on novels and anthology
--we do daily oral language
-- descriptive writing
--narrative writing
--persuasive writign
--expository writing
I also have them keep Literature Response Journals for every novel to record their thoughts and feelings about what they read.

I give weekly spelling lists with homework assignments every night.

Any other questions just ask!
