Though I'm not happy that everyone is having these same problems, it is nice to hear that it is common, and needs work
Thank you for the beginnings and conclusions idea with discussion. I'll try it within the next few
weeks.
And to those who also were having the same problem, I talked to my practicum teacher who teaches 7th grade English/Literature and her suggestion was to read several different examples of conclusions, and short stories and discuss why those endings work, along the same ideas as was mentioned here.

An activity that I tried last week was I picked a picture book and read them the

story, except for the last two pages and had them create the ending. Before we read the story we discussed what a conclusion should do, and put it on the board. Then after 15-20 minutes of writing I had some students share their conclusions, and we went over the list we had put on the board to see if it fit, and what they could do to fix it up, and make it better. There conclusions were not the greatest, but there was some improvement. Especially considering a few of them realized that they couldn't wrap it up with one sentence.
