good beginnings and conclusions
By JS

Clip to ScrapBook
Here's an idea. When you read literature, make a chart of the different types of beginnings and conclusions other authors use. For example, questions, quotes, descriptions, etc. When you read a fabulous first or last sentence write it on a big chart and then discuss what makes it so good. Question what techniques the authors used. Then have students write the same kinds of sentences.
