Biomes By Elaine

There are some VERY nice posters of the different biomes available. I got mine at our local teachers' store, or if you have time you could order from a catalog. Sometimes the posters have activities on the back. I did | an endangered animal project with my students (which was more science related) that turned out to have an important biome component. Students made mobiles to present their information, and one section was to describe the biome in which their animal lived. They used a world map and colored in their biome to provide a visual, and then wrote a description of the biome including climate, | | rainfall, etc. Since pairs worked together on the same animal, we had 13 different animals, and all the biomes were represented at least once. Learning about the biomes was not my main objective for assigning the project, but it turned out to be a bonus. If you designed a project specifically around the biome -- research biome, what special adaptations do plants and animals need to survive in the biome, discover any endangered animals in that area, find out reasons for endangerment and solutions to save the animal -- you could probably cover lots of objectives at one time. Good luck. ElaineP. S. The mobile idea was from a Penny Strube book (Scholastic). I think it is THEME STUDIES. If you are interested in the exact title, post and I will dig out the book and check.
