Idea for intro to fractions
By Kelley

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi Lynn,
There is a book....it is Fractions with the Hershey bar(something like that)...it talks about twelfths and some 1/2 and 3/4 and some other fractions...it is a good book..I used a hershey candy bar to demonstrate
with..I gave one out to each kid...then i made a ditto up that look liked a real hershey bar(it was divivded up into 12 little pieces) and gave one out to each kid and let them practice placing parts of their candy bar on it..like 6/12 is equal to 1/2 of the candy bar and so on(You can call out fractions and they can place their pieces correctly on it)...I also used M&M's as far as what
fraction of these M&M's are red or blue or green or so on..so if you had given the kids each 10M&M's they would say they had 3 red ones..so the ans would be 3/10..they can graph this...just some ideas that I used and they worked beautifully....But just look for the books out there...there are a few on fractions...I just did this with my 4th grade observation class and they loved it! Kelley
