everyday math
By Martha

Clip to ScrapBook
Our district is in the 2nd year using this math program. I definitly like the revised program which we did purchase even though we had just bought the original program last year to use. The teaching manual is much easier
to follow and the journals are more kid friendly. On the whole our parents do not like the program as at least in my school our kids are of lower ability and it is a very demanding program. Kids that got As and Bs in math before are finding that they have to think more and do more work and really have to participate and keep up with the pace. Unfortunately the lower achievers fall further
behind as they do not get enough practice with the basic program. However, there is remediation and enrichment built into each lesson if you have the time to use it. My problem is the lack of time to get a whole lesson in. To do each lesson justice, plan about 75 - 90 minutes a day unless you have really good students and good independent workers. As a teacher, I like the program but I am not sure it was the right fit for the kids in my school. But maybe as the years go by and the kids are exposed to it from kindergarten on they will come to me more prepared.
