Talking!
By Melissa Neal

Clip to ScrapBook
I have a group of talkative fourth graders also. However, where I teach the 4 fourth grade classes are broken into "ablity" groups. I teach the AG math classes. And let me tell you my second block is awful. What works
for them is silent lunch. I write 30 min. on the board. If they can do their job and not talk (teamwork) when their suppose to be listening, my assistant gradually reduces their time. Sometimes they end up with 30 min. and sometimes they get all 30 to talk.

Just to give you and idea to look for: I took a workshop on Control Theory hosted by Perry Good. She's wonderful and gives insights

to these types of problems. I am sure she's on the web if you want to look her up. Oh, Teach Them to Be Happy is another title. I have one more at school that impowers the class to make decissions. I will get that to you.
