Uncomfortable By Julie

It is always so uncomfortable to have to confront that situation! It seems like I always have one every year. What I started doing is creating little packs. I got some trial size deoderants donated from a store, some toothbrushes| and toothpaste from the dentist, a hairbrush or comb from a salon, and bought a pair of cheap fingernail clippers. I put them in small cosmetic bags that noone can see through. Fortunately enough, I have a bathroom in my classroom. So, I'll keep one in there and in a private session, explain to the student how our bodies are changing and it's important to take care of them. | | I'll tell them that there's a bag in the bathroom for them to use in the mornings when they first get to school. If you don't have a bathroom in your classroom, they can keep them in their locker and use it right away in the morning. Another thing is that I keep extra t-shirts and sweatshirts on hand (from the lost and found box, hand me downs from families, etc.) and will sometimes have them change shirts if that is part of the problem. Hope there's something there you can use - it's just such a tough situation and it's frustrating when you know it's not technically your job to take care of it! Good luck!
