fractions

this is my first full week of teaching, and fractions was my first math challenge. i began by making a fraction out of how many of them did not do their homework from the previous night (it was 14/16 by the way). they got two messages at once. my kids caught on really quickly. my mentor teacher suggested that i start with the basics and tell them what numerators and denominators are. she definitely seemed to know what she was talking about.
