Scholastic Book Club has a neat poster you can purchase for each kid to complete on a particular person they read about. For my unit, I have each child do a search in our library or in bookadventure.com to locate a biography book that interests them. They then read the book and complete the poster. Along with the poster they make a biography bottle of that person. You use a plastic soda bottle and a styrofoam ball for the head and the student 'dresses the bottle and adds details to the ball to depict the character. It makes for a great display and the children learn!!! Also, Scholastic has a literature and writing kit that covers all different genres incuding biographies. Each genre has 6 paperback books with excerpts for that genre and a teaching manual with activites and ideas to use in the classroom. I do know that the January Arrow book form has some of these books for sale in the teacher's section.
