Although I'm not referring to Mosaic of Thought, I have a similar situation. I have a reading specialist come in for one period a day to help teach reading comp. in my classroom. HER METHODS ARE ARCHAIC, and it's quite sad that she's considered a specialist. She doesn't use lit. circles or anything! NOTHING but round robin reading and if you know anything there has got to be more! Since I can't get around her, I use really good reading strategies when she's not around in other areas like the content areas. The kids enjoy it and I find that I'm still able to do it even if she is unwilling. Stick to your guns.
