Dialogue Journals
By JS

Clip to ScrapBook
I have my students write dialogue journals (as found in Fountas and Pinnel). Each week they write to me about what they are reading......or even personal letters...and I respond back in a complete letter. I do 3-5 a night. Each child is assigned a day even though they can write to me more often if they wish. The students love to receive my letters and will often write back more often! I model the structure of a letter in my writing and they have begun to follow. Each time they are writing more and more, and it's nice to have a private one on one conversatiion with them as the day is often too busy. It's working great for my class.
