I like this idea

I like this idea, Elaine. Some of my kids have to practically have their arms twisted to write, and they really do need to practice it, not only for the state test which is to come, for for their entire lives.

I am
trying to decide exactly what you do. You have the kids pull a sentence strip out of the bag with a story starter? Then they can pull out another one? Are both related? How many can they pull out?

I would like to share what we did on Friday (yesterday). I only had five students, because the rest of the kids went to Myrtle Beach on a Junior Beta Club convention. I gave the kids

the story prompt, then I had each kid supply me with the next sentence. Amber continued with the next line of the story, and everybody wrote it down. Kimberly provided the next, and so on. The kids then finished the story with their own special endings. The story prompt came from a book of journal prompts that I have. The prompt read something like this: Santa was leaving on Christmas Eve with the presents on his sleigh when he saw an alien spacecraft. I am sure you can imagine the wacky story they came up with. They enjoyed reading it afterwards, and they did get to practice story writing--beginning, middle, and ending.
