If anyone has an effective, but not completely time consuming way to hold students accountable for their independent reading, while at the same time not squashing any enjoyment from the reading, please share!!!!!

If we can just get kids to LIKE reading, they will do half of our jobs for us. When was the last time you wrote a summary or filled out a graphic organizer after finishing that paperback thriller that you just couldn't put down? I'll bet you wished you had somebody to talk to about it though...
