I have just begun assigning paragraphs using 5 spelling words and one writing device. For example, after the Sp. test on Friday, they choose 5 spelling words. Whatever we are studying in Lang. Arts is also applied. This last week they had to include an alliteration sentence in their paragraph. Other than that, they are on their own as far as content. Titles, indentations, complete sentences, and punctuation are all graded. I have been pleasantly surprised at the quality of work from these 4th graders.
