Prime/Composites
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
I have a wonderful way for you to approach these concepts. I use a lesson from Trail Blazers that has students work in small groups to create and cut out (using 1/2 inch grid/graph paper) all the possible rectangles you they can make for numbers 1-25. Example: For the #24, they can make rectangles 1X24, 2x12, 3x8, 4x6. For the #11 they can only make 1x11. They can easily see which #s are prime and which are composite and why. They can also identify #s which make a square and see why they are square #s. I love this lesson. There is also the famous Erosthenes Sieve. Let me know if you need more info.
