GIVING THE GREEN LIGHT By Supportive Principal
|
|
I feel like an intruder writing on this topic. I was emailed the piece written by SHUTDOWN by an anonymus teacher (I'm sure of it.) I did my usual walk through of the school and noticed the frustration on the faces of all| of my teachers. Students were involved in lessons, disrespect was prevalent and the learning process was a mockery. True, my teachers wer trying but for what? To be disrespected by students who are constantly suspended? I called another colleague of mine and emailed him the piece written by SHUT DOWN. Together, we have decided to allow our teachers to have a SHUT DOWN. I live in | | a small rural town so I'm curious to know if SHUT DOWN was from a large urban school district or not. I was inspired by this teacher's actions. Her willingness to go all out for her students is to be commended. I know your frustrations as teachers. I was one for 18 years before becoing a principal and believe me when I say that if you approach your principal the right way, you will get support. Most colleagues I've met are "teadhers at heart" and are required to do things that go against their better judgement. However, I also realize that there are some who put the "id" in IDIOT! I had to write because I want teachers to know that not all principals are willing ro risk their teachers happiness for test scores!
