Mini shutdown By Erica

It amazes me that many of the situations that I read on Proteacher are so similar to mine. I have taken away many fun incentive-type activities from my students. They got upset about it, yet their behavior has not changed.| I love to reward them for what they do get accomplished, and that in itself will have to stop if their madness, disrespect, and rudeness continue. I have not yet given up hope! I will see how this week goes. To answer Elaine's question,I think that starting the day off on "shutdown mode" without explaining or telling them would be effective. Once they begin to acknowledge that | | something different and unlike you is going on, then explain, plainly and without any discussion that you have shutdown the extras. Tell them that you will not take the time out to do all the fun cooperative work if they do not plan on behaving and following directions. I wouldn't go into it much more than that. They will se that they have no choice in this matter and that until you feel that they can handle the "extras" again, they won't have it. I think that in your situation, this will really work to your advantage. Good Luck to you, and let us know how it goes! (I PRAY THAT I WON'T HAVE TO GO THERE!!) Erica
