C-mas party
By Tia

Clip to ScrapBook
I, too, was surprised by the length of your party. I'm sure you'll survive. One year we were told that parties could only be the last 1/2 hour of the day--I quietly protested, and my class had a slightly longer party--because
1) 6th graders need about 15 minutes just to clean up! and 2) I always try to squeeze a little teaching in. (so if I'm doing a lesson within our curriculum, but it's on Christmas, when does the party really begin?

Ideas:
pin the pom (white cotton ball dipped in glue) on Santa's hat--paper over entire wall, draw/color giant Santa with hat--closest to actual spot it should go,

wins prize. SIMILAR TO PIN THE TAIL ON THE DONKEY (I usually play pin the nose on the witch at Halloween, but have had a little outbreak of head lice this year, so forewent that--since I didn't have 24 bandanas.)

I like to do a bit of seatwork to keep them under control (alternated with moving around activities).

One activity that is my favorite is The Twelve Brats of Christmas--picture of 12 rotten kids--brainstorming which presents they receive--very difficult, will keep them busy for a good chunk of time. I'd be happy to send that out to anyone who sends me their snail mail address.

Also do synonym carols where the Cmas carol's title is changed to different word. Also, Antonym carols.

Christmas "You Can't Say That!"
Person given card must get group to say name of Cmas item in certain amount of time. Kid "on deck" cannot use specific words. IE: for candy cane--kid needs to describe it without using words red/white/striped/lick or, of course, candy or cane.

Alliteration
I have a neat activity for Halloween, but this could easily be modified for Cmas--Create the rest of these sentences using alliteration:
Crazy carolers____________________
Six stuffed stockings___________________
Perfect presents____________________

Cmas crosswords and word searches

I also have Cryptic Christmas Cartoons--
little pictures to represent a Cmas carol:
a knight with holes in his armor "O, Holy Night"

Send me your snail mail address if you'd like copies. tnewell@boiseschools.org
