forgiving division
By Elaine

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't know if I can describe the method here without being able to show examples, but I'd be willing to send you a copy (taken from my teacher's guide) if you are interested in seeing how it's really done. Please email me your snail mail address and I'll do my best to get it to you. What grade level students do you teach? I introduce forgiving to my 4th graders, and since I loop up to 5th with them, I don't have to worry about teaching them the algorithm until the middle of 5th. I just want them to be able to do long division successfully (using the expected method) before going off to middle school.
